Redeemer East Side Update

Hurricane

"It's a nightmare." That's what we heard when we reached out to Leo Schuster, the former lead pastor of Redeemer East Side who has since gone on to plant City Church Houston. Thankfully, Leo and his family have fared well and no one in his church has been injured.

But by now, I am sure you have seen the heartbreaking images or even possibly heard from friends or family who are experiencing firsthand the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and its continued aftermath. There are hundreds of thousands of people who find themselves evacuated from their homes and facing unimaginable need.

In moments like this, I am reminded of the remarkable compassion of the early church, where Christians even in "their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity" (2 Corinthians 8:2). The New Testament church was a community so radically transformed by the gospel that they responded to the need of others with astounding generosity—even at great cost to themselves. As those who had received the infinite generosity of Jesus, they could respond in no other way.

The Redeemer family of churches is partnering with City Church Houston to raise funds for immediate relief efforts and ongoing assistance. They have established a designated fund that will go directly to Hurricane Harvey victims from within City Church and local organizations providing relief. I want to personally encourage you to consider giving to this fund in this moment of need. You can use this link to give directly to their efforts as a local church to reach out to those in need. (Be sure to choose the "Benevolence Fund - Harvey" option.)

Thank you for prayerfully considering this appeal. And please continue to be in prayer for all those affected by this tragedy.

Warmly,

Rev. Abraham Cho
East Side Congregation Lead Pastor
