Redeemer East Side Update

As 2017 begins, I am struck by how transformative this year will be for our congregation. Here are just a few things to get excited about (in addition to the shiny new Q Train!).

First, Redeemer East Side will become its own stand-alone church this year. While all Redeemer churches will continue to be part of a tight family of churches, by the end of 2017 we will have our own budget (based on our giving) along with our own decision-making and oversight. That is an exciting change that will enable us to be more effective in our neighborhoods.

Second, this year marks the beginning of the launch of new sites. In four months, on Easter, Redeemer will be launching Redeemer Lincoln Square—the first of several sites that will help us to reach more neighborhoods with the gospel. We have already started planning for the next site to come directly out of the East Side congregation (more on that soon!).

Third, so much of our Rise vision will go from vision to reality in 2017. You’ll start to see aspects of our new discipleship initiative, you’ll hear about the 20 new churches we’ll be partnering with City to City to plant, and you’ll get updates on our progress on the East Side building. For now, be sure you’re getting the updates here.

I couldn’t be more excited for 2017. But what I am most excited about is how God will use all of this to grow and challenge you as he invites you to be a part of the work he is doing in New York City.

Happy New Year!

Warmly,

Rev. Abraham Cho
East Side Congregation Lead Pastor

My name is Laura Bradshaw and I'm the administrative coordinator for the East Side Children's Ministry team. I'm originally from Richmond, Virginia but I've lived in New York for close to six years now, coming to the city for college and deciding to stay and call it home after I graduated. I joined the Children's Ministry team in July of 2016 but have been attending Redeemer for over two years. I'm so grateful for a job that integrates faith and work deeply, and for a church that has shaped and encouraged me. When not at work, I am typically exploring Brooklyn, the borough I live in. When the weather is nice I love to go to Prospect Park but in colder months like January, coffee shops are a go-to for me. I recommend The Hungry Ghost if in Brooklyn or Grounded if in Manhattan.
