Redeemer East Side Update

The past two Sundays we introduced several people to you. The first was Rev. Michael Keller, who will be starting the first Redeemer congregation that we have planted in many years, and the first to grow out of the Rise Campaign—Redeemer Lincoln Square. Redeemer West Side is working with Michael to launch their first worship service on Easter 2017. This is just the first of many new congregations we will be sending out of Redeemer—with one growing out of the East Side in the near future!
This past week, as part of City to City Sunday, we introduced you to a group of pastors who are leading church-planting movements in global cities across the world. You heard some of their stories and the impact they are having in those cities. It has been an exciting couple of weeks.
All this points to how important effective pastoral leadership is for our 10-year vision. Your generous gifts to the Rise Campaign are allowing us to develop pastors for New York City like never before. In addition to the seminary we started last year, we just admitted our first cohort of Pastoral Residents. These are leaders who have finished seminary, or may be in seminary but bring several years of New York City ministry experience with them.
I’m thrilled to introduce our East Side residents: Justin Adour and Mark Ro. You can read Justin’s story below and look for Mark’s story in our next update. Join me in welcoming our pastoral residents to Redeemer East Side!
Warmly,
Rev. Abraham Cho

Originally from upstate NY, Justin, his wife Angela, and their 2 daughters have lived in NYC since 2008. He served as a Youth Pastor in the Bronx where he was honored to serve amazing Bronx youth for 6 years. Additionally, he also served as the Protestant Chaplain at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and most recently, with The Navigators in NYC. In college, Justin studied Intercultural Studies and also has a masters in Intercultural Ministry with a focus on Urban Missiology. Additionally, he is in his final year at Reformed Theological Seminary NYC. Justin currently serves as the Pastoral Resident for the UES congregation. He works with the community groups team serving and caring for community groups and their leaders. This is an exciting time in NYC and he's honored to be a part of what God is doing through Redeemer in the city.
When not at Redeemer, he and his family enjoy leisurely strolls through some of the more unbeaten paths of Manhattan and practicing the art of cupcake consumption (Molly's in the West Village & Make My Cake in Harlem = must try). He also enjoys extensive reading (from Bonhoeffer to Brontë), writing, and playing one of his 6 guitars.
He also has an affinity for Pride & Prejudice and has been known to attempt to woo his wife using Mr. Darcy lines.
