Redeemer East Side Update

Sept13

Anthony Trollope once wrote: “A small daily task, if it be really daily, will beat the labours of a spasmodic Hercules.” The ordinary things that we do repeatedly over time are what form us. Like the gentle winds that carve out vast canyons over time, what we do repeatedly carves out the canyons of our souls.

But if you’re like me, you’re more like the “spasmodic Hercules.” In spasms of inspiration, we dream of making heroic changes in our lives, only to be met with a fading resolve. We start to wonder if we are capable of changing at all! But, what if we were to slowly build a rhythm of ordinary practices into our daily lives? What if we did that together as a community, particularly in our Community Groups?

This past Sunday we kicked off the ministry year by introducing a new initiative called Formation. Far more than just a new sermon series, Formation represents a shift in our approach to ministry. We believe that your spiritual formation is the key to our future. It is the most important thing we can invest in, because God wants to use each one of us in particular ways to reach the city with the gospel.

Throughout the year, you’ll be hearing a lot more about how we want to help you grow through practices, community, and callings. My prayer is that you would be personally renewed by the gospel in new ways, as we help one another grow. We do all of this, not for ourselves alone, but for the good of the city. We are, after all, trusting in the same God who, in the New Testament church, “added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:47)

Warmly,

Rev. Abraham Cho
East Side Congregation Lead Pastor
