Redeemer East Side Update

In times of crisis and in times of great need, the Church always has the call, responsibility and obligation to care well for one another. We also have the opportunity to extend the care and concern of the love of Christ, and to reimagine our call to love our city and our neighbors. The COVID-19 pandemic is a moment for Redeemer East Side to embody both.

Below are some updates regarding ways we are trying to make that a reality for us as a church community, as well as our neighbors in the city.

Pastoral care. Our staff and elected leaders would love to connect with you individually if you’re in need of pastoral care. Let us know how to pray for you or if you’d like to talk personally by completing this request form. Also, as a response to the COVID-19 crisis, Redeemer Counseling Services is launching a series of remote counseling groups that address specific concerns related to this crisis.

For those in financial need. If you have financial needs because of COVID-19, contact the Diaconate Helpline at 917-719-0259 or submit the Diaconate care request form (for Redeemer congregants). Also, if a neighbor, friend or family member in New York City who is not part of our church community has immediate financial needs because of COVID-19, please ask them to complete this care request form (for non-congregant New Yorkers) and a member of the Diaconate team will contact them.

Sunday worship. We will broadcast two live-streamed services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. An advanced copy of the worship bulletin is available on our website, along with the a.m. and p.m. music for you to listen to before or after the service.

Noonday Prayer. I’ve been deeply encouraged by our Virtual Noonday Prayer, with over 70 East Siders united in daily prayer. I hope it’s the beginning of an ongoing and meaningful movement of prayer within our church.

Community. Community Groups are meeting virtually and want to welcome you. If you are not yet in a Virtual Community Group. please email [email protected] to get connected.

Generosity. We are reworking our budget to reduce our expenses. However, we continue to have ongoing expenses and your giving is crucial. Recurring giving has actually increased in the last few weeks — thank you! What a beautiful affirmation of grace at work! To give, visit our generosity page. Also to give beyond your regular offering, the East Side's Disaster Relief Fund directly aids urgent COVID-19 related needs for New Yorkers beyond our church community.

We’ve been concluding our Virtual Noonday Prayer with this familiar and life-giving benediction from 2 Corinthians 3:14: “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” May that good word of blessing become an ever-increasing reality for us all.

Warmly,

Rev. Abraham Cho
East Side Senior Pastor
